HOW TO BE DEADLY On the eve of the biggest dirt bike competition of the year, alpha underdog, working class hero and utterly “unique human” Donnie Dumphy cashes his welfare cheque, tours the sketchiest regions of town, loses the love of his life, gets a shit-knocking, puts his “all” into an all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet, steals hallucinogenic mushrooms from some teens, brings the house down at the hottest club with his raps and sleeps with his social worker. What else do you wanna know? Oh yeah, he so really wins that dirt bike competition despite what the judges say. Everybody knows dat.

HOW TO BE DEADLY TO BE SCREENED AT THE 2012 CANNES FILM FESTIVAL SHORT FILM CORNER!
Posted on Wednesday 11th of May 2011. May 11, 2012 – With over a million hits on YouTube, over 26,000 Facebook Fans, an album and two successful live tours; alpha underdog, working class hero and utterly “unique human” Donnie Dumphy is no stranger to the spotlight. But the creative team behind the viral video sensation have ambitions to take Dumphy from the computer screen to the big screen and the first stop is the Cannes Film Festival Short Film Corner in France, May 16th to 27th, 2012.
“HOW TO BE DEADLY”starring Donnie Dumphy, was filmed in St. John's in August 2011. Written by Nik Sexton and Ed Riche, Directed by Nik Sexton and Produced by Mary Sexton, the film also stars Susan Kent and Gina Squires.
The short film started life as a “Proof of Concept” for a feature film, currently in development with Rink Rat Productions and has received script development financing from the Newfoundland & Labrador Film Development Corporation and Telefilm Canada. “Nik and Ed wrote a hilarious screenplay, but it was difficult to explain to potential investors how these characters can be translated into a feature length story, so we decided to film a few key scenes as a sort of trailer” says Producer, Mary Sexton. “We realized the scenes we chose to film worked as a short story, so Ed and I wrote some new connecting scenes and our proposed trailer grew into a 15 minute short film.” says Director and Co-writer Nik Sexton. The team is submitting “HOW TO BE DEADLY” to national and international film festivals, and were delighted to learn they have been accepted to the 2012 Cannes Film Festival Short Film Corner.
“We hope this will help trigger interest from a distributor and investors in the feature version, but right now we're happy and honoured to be given the opportunity the showcase our short film at one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world” says Mary Sexton.
